About me
As an interdisciplinary designer, artist and solution-seeker with over 10 years of experience, my goal is to create remarkable graphics paired with meaningful solutions that simplify and enhance human/user experience.

I offer a holistic design perspective, from data-driven strategy, concepting, execution, direction to implementation, by having a deep understanding of relevant design disciplines, such as communication and multimedia, UI and UX, motion, HTML, and CSS syntax.

I currently work as a Senior Designer at Godfrey, a full-service B2B marketing agency, where I help elevate creativity, cultivate diversity, and advocate for design scalability and accessibility.

'Jump starting' the creativity within, early on
Growing up, my parents were always a big inspiration. My mom was always making something beautiful by hand, and my father was an early adopter of everything tech. Thanks to my dad, I was witnessing the evolution of digital platforms, like old-school video games, computers and the beginning of the internet.
That environment enabled me to be more sensitive to creativity and the role design plays in modern society. At a very young age, I was able to tell a knock-off toy packaging  from a genuine one, just by the layout, colors and mostly typography. That sort of stuck with me.

That Wizard of Oz moment
Later in high school, I studied computer sciences, learning the ropes of early programming tools and syntaxes, such as C++, Pascal, and HTML. It was truly a Wizard of Oz moment, when I had a glimpse at what's behind the (design) curtain.
Around the same time, while independently exploring tools like Adobe Photoshop, I started tinkering with Microsoft FrontPage, putting together simple websites for fun. That's when it all clicked. Web design was here to stay and at that moment, I decided to become a web designer.

Getting my feet wet
After high-school, I completed an associate's degree in Communication and Multimedia Design at ETIC (Escola de Tecnologias Inovação e Criação — School of Innovation and Creation Technologies). That's when started doing some local freelance work.
Soon after my journey at ETIC ended, I joined WHO (now BAIRRO) as a junior designer — a small local creative talent agency. I supported the senior designer with graphics and maintaining the website. In 2008, I was publishing web updates and content entry via Adobe Dreamweaver, animating interactive assets with Flash, creating graphics with Adobe Photoshop, and optimizing web assets with Adobe Fireworks.
To sculpture, or not to sculpture?
I wanted to pursue a higher education, so enrolled in sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts from the University of Lisbon. I had hopes of switching to the design major at a later time, however I really enjoyed creating and exploring in the three-dimensional space, as well as the manual studio work, so I decided to finish my major.
On my last year, I was granted a scholarship to finish my studies in at Solent University, in Southampton, England, where I explored working with cheap, found and ready-made materials to compose my sculptures, as well as digital manipulation and photography.

Getting back on track
After one month of three non-paid Monday thru Sunday internships, I was hired as an art gallery administrator in Boston, MA. After that, I travelled the country for the next three years working as a special effects makeup artist for the National Guard. In the meantime, I was working on updating my portfolio with more current work, both freelance and personal projects.
In 2015 I was hired as a Graphic Designer at innerorange (iO) — a PNC Bank in-house team, sub-division of InnerWorkings. At iO, I worked on concepting, branding, traditional print media, and promotional digital work. I joined the Godfrey team — a full-service B2B marketing agency focused on industrial manufacturers — in 2019, as a senior designer.
Fast-forward to today
Throughout my (ongoing) journey, I've gained a holistic understanding of the design process, from data-driven decisions, concepting, execution, direction to implementation, as well as developed deep understanding of relevant interdisciplinary skills in various design principles, such as brand identity, UX/UI, and front-end design.
